SETTING UP FLOWSHEET VIEW SEQUENTIALLY FOR THE SOARIAN® CLINICAL USER INTERFACE
By Dee Kangian
While hospitals strive for consistency and standardization throughout the organization,
sometimes it is prudent to accommodate a department’s specific need, to improve quality of care
and efficiency. The Soarian® Patient Record allows the flexibility of sequencing clinical
flowsheets to meet the needs of each department, without losing the focus on standardization
between the departments in a hospital.
When setting up the preferences for the Patient Record tab in Soarian Clinicals User Interface
(UI), users have the ability to sequence clinical flowsheets specifically to each department’s
needs. This functionality is subtle in the Soarian Clinical Admin Desktop, but easily
accomplished with the right expertise. In the Admin Desktop, after the flowsheets have been
selected, move them into the appropriate sequence. Using the Soarian tools will accommodate
specific department needs and give the clinician the ability to move away from the computer and
focus more time on patient care.
Sequencing each preference group in Soarian Clinical UI is accomplished by:
- Opening the SC Admin Desktop
- Select Tools/Preferences
- Select the Preference Enterprise, Entity, or Preference Group that you are getting ready
to setup
- Go to the Patient Record preferences
- At the bottom of the screen, you will see the flowsheets available for selection
- Check the boxes for the flowsheets you want to display for that particular preference.
Once all the flowsheets have been selected that you want to view, select and highlight one
of the selected flowsheets, and while continuing to depress on the left mouse, move it up to
where you want it to display.
This functionality is not overtly intuitive. Following the above steps will allow you to
place your flowsheets in the order you want them to display for each of your preferences.
The flexibility of defining Soarian to meet each department’s needs, allows organizations to
be more efficient. With rising health care costs and insurance premiums, and a patient
population where the acuity for inpatient admissions is much higher; every step towards
streamlining the process for health care provider’s increases efficiency. This, in turn, will
decrease average length of patient stay and increase the amount of time spent focusing on patient
care.
