GOLD TIPS. NOT TO BE FORGOTTEN.
By Connie Kaufmann, RN, MSN

There are several tools I use every day when building with GOLD that are timesavers or can provide added features to your custom building projects. These are not new and many of you might use them too, but a brief refresher never hurt anyone.

CHPPMOFF and CHPPMON

These 2 programs $P=CHPPMOFF and $P=CHPPMON turn the Gold version of the stack and auda display back into a “3270” remapped version. I have found this handy when I want to see the various stack command play out and process but want the speed of the remapped display. To turn the stack and auda back to a remapped version all you need to do is complete the following steps:

  1. Access test mode.
  2. Once in test mode and the stack and auda display is presented add the following command to the top of the stack: $P=CHPPMOFF
  3. Accept the change and then once you execute the next stack command – you are back in a remapped version of the stack and auda.
  4. When you want to return to the true Gold view, place the following command on the stack: $P=CHPPMON (yes it is only 7 characters)
  5. Accept the change and once that program runs you are back to the Gold version.

Copying the entire auda:

When working in Gold you have the ability to copy the entire auda.

  1. Access test mode
  2. Place your cursor on an item in the auda display and highlight it.
  3. Then complete a Windows copy command (‘ctrl’ ,C)
  4. Once that copy command has been invoked you can open a different tool – word processor or spreadsheet and perform a paste command.
  5. The entire auda will have been copied into that product.

This can be a great tool when you are looking for that one item out of thousands that you know must be different in a pathway that you need to analyze. You can use this process at different times and perform an auda comparison. Between the two different points in question

Invisible Gold forms:

Have you ever thought that you would like to perform several operations using a gold form’s pre-display commands but you really did not need a screen or want an end user to access a form that they could exit out of before completing all the processing you need to accomplish on that form? Well, you can do just that. Siemens uses this process during the patient context changing in the Net Access registration process for creating a new case. I have seen this process used by other builders in different situations and have had the opportunity to use it several times myself. Good examples for use could be found in order entry, care provider updates, population of a profile using the Generic Profile Update utility.

What you need to do is create a “blank” gold form with the same headers and footers that are in the pathway you need to use the process in. The main well of the form is a panel that can be blank or maybe contain words like “Processing” or “Updating”. Usually an end user only sees a screen flash unless your system is very slow. All commands needed are placed in the pre-display. You build the normal “Update/OK/Exit” HAC that would be placed on the exit from the gold form button. The last pre-display command is an execute[xxxxHAC].activate command for that HAC you created that competes the exit off the form. This causes the form to run, perform the needed commands, and exit all by itself without end user interaction, creating a safety-net around your special function. This is a process that you only want to use when really necessary because you do not want pathways to become too non-interactive. Keep it in mind for just the right spot where using the process can be a life saver.
