HELP HYPERLINKS IN OAS GOLD
By Sheri Lee

The creation of OAS Gold has provided some of the most technological Siemens software advances for Healthcare users. OAS Gold offers the ability to use List Boxes, Dropdown values and Panels just to name a few of these advanced items. However, one of the most convenient advantages of OAS Gold is the ability to use “Help Hyperlinks”. Most of Siemens software user’s have made the transition from using the first generation of the 3270 screens to the new updated software of OAS Gold. Unfortunately, one of the disadvantages to this change is the ability to select PF24 as a Help option. Although OAS Gold is viewed as “user friendly” software and contains the internet concept of ‘point & click’; it lacks the use of “PF24” help options to view helpful information for end users on individual fields.

However, there is a way to add Help options for the OAS Gold user. The use of Hyperlinks in Gold gives the ability to review options that will give information on how to complete or proceed through Clinical and Patient Management pathways. A Hyperlink in OAS Gold is a Web-based navigational function that points to an image, text, or some piece of valuable information for healthcare users. This information can be a Word Document, PowerPoint Presentation or an actual website that displays specific information. For example, a user is not sure of the correct way to add an Allergy to a patient’s clinical chart. In the Allergy pathway a hyperlink can be added to the screen to direct the user on how to complete adding the allergy. Another example of where a Hyperlink is useful is for Discharge Instructions in the Clinical Pathway. Healthcare providers can use a Hyperlink to the Micromedex website to access and print specific discharge instructions or patient information as part of a patient’s Plan of Care.

The addition of a Hyperlink to an OAS Gold form is not a difficult task. The first part of the process is to create the Help document in Microsoft Word or Power point or to research the specific web address that provides information on the topic. Once this is created and the document is saved in the form as a webpage or “pdf” format the following steps should be taken in OAS Gold Builder:

Step 1: Add a text button or image button to the Form and enter the properties for this button.

Step 2: Select to add the Help Hyplerink Action Controller and drop it anywhere on the form.

Step 3: Connect the Help Action Link Controller to the Text Or Image Button. Once the Help Action Link Controller is attached to the Text or Image Button; the display properties need to be added to the controller. The display properties are the list of instructions that should take place once the text or image button has been selected. In this area is where the name of the webpage should be placed.

Step 4: Save the form and enable it to production status and it is now ready to work. Once the user selects the text button in the pathway a webpage of instructions will appear.

Even though the PF24 help option is not a part of OAS Gold, the ability for the healthcare providers to have practical help information is possible with the addition of Hyperlinks. The ability to access medical websites or documents via OAS Gold shows the advantages this software provides far above 3270.
