Gold Builder Tip
By Scott Cannon
The OASGold® tools can allow users to make significant changes to INVISION®. However, sometimes projects can create a large number of forms to indentify and enable, and in some cases, the OASGold Builder’s default settings can be inadequate. The current setup is limited to enabling only 50 gold forms at one time and identifying gold forms that start with two specific characters.
OASGold and OASGold Builder allows you to set parameters in their respective INI files. Most people are familiar with the OASGold INI file, but many are not familiar with the Builder INI file. The OASGold Builder INI file is usually located in the C:\OASGOLD folder and it’s called “OAFBPARM.INI”.
In order to perform an update to the INI file, Builder must be closed. If you have already opened the builder, you may also need to close all your Internet Explorer sessions to avoid error messages while trying to save the file.
Here are the two lines to add to your OAFBPARM.INI file. An explanation follows:
minimumSelectListPrefix=1
selectionLimit=1000
The first line (minimumSelectListPrefix=1) will tell the builder to allow you to enter a 1 character prefix to find things. Instead of listing all the gold forms that start with GV* you can do G* instead. The default value for this is 2 characters. If, for some reason, you wanted users to type in three characters, you could also set it higher.
The second line (selectionLimit=1000) tells the builder how many returned gold forms to put in the list. The system default is 50. While 1000 is an extreme example, there may certainly be projects where you might need to move over 100 Gold forms.
Hopefully these tips will help tremendously when you are trying to enable a big list of gold forms at once.
